Suppressive Therapy - the recommended dosage of Valtrex for chronic suppressive therapy of recurrent cold sores is 1 gram once daily. In patients with a history of 9 or fewer recurrences per year, an alternative dose is 500 mg once daily.

Valtrex Precautions
Individuals should not exceed the recommended dose of Valtrex or take Valtrex for longer than prescribed without first consulting with your doctor.
If you are pregnant, intend to become pregnant or breastfeeding do not use this medication. If you become pregnant you should contact your physician immediately. Valtrex should not be prescribed to children.
Valtrex Drug Interactions
Inform your doctor of all nonprescription and prescription medication you may use, especially Tagamet (cimetidine), Benemid (probenecid), AZT (zidovudine), Retrovir (zidovudine).
