to developed a psychiatric disorder than those individuals taking a placebo (sugar pill).

At the time of Acomplia’s first approval there were some psychiatric associated side effects associated with the use of Acomplia (primarily depression).  GP's were informed of the possibility of depression associated with the use of Acomplia  and the weight loss medication was approved for sales in Europe.

However, further evaluation of the Acomplia has revealed that the potential for positive weight loss does not override the risk of individuals developing psychological disorders while taking Acomplia. Hence, the weight loss drug, Acomplia has been taken off the market in Europe.

All governing agencies will continue to evaluate the studies involving the use of Acomplia. However, at this time the withdrawal of Acomplia appears to be a permanent measure to protect the safety of the general public.
